Although we love to do all things Winter in Chippewa County, there is something special about going outside without having to bundle up head to toe. So trade in your snowmobile for your ATV, put your snowshoes in storage and lace up your hiking boots, and put away the hot cocoa and crack open a Leinenkugel Summer Shandy because it is time to SPRING into a new adventure (cheesy we know, but we are cheeseheads so..)!

We are very proud to offer 81 miles of trout fishing in 24 classified trout streams. Even if you don’t make the catch you hope for, you can still enjoy a fabulous Fish Fry at one of our local restaurants.

One of our favorite parts of the Winter freeze melting away is the reappearance of our County’s magnificent open waters. Glide through the peaceful water of breathtaking Lake Wissota. Explore the kettle lakes of the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Interpretative Area. Journey through the banks of the mighty Chippewa River. Whether you go by kayak, paddleboard, boat, or canoe, you will find new nooks and crannies of Chippewa County’s natural landscape.

Cruise the Trails
Put away those fat tires, and get ready to cruise the miles of well-kept, snowless (!!) bike trails of Chippewa County. Whether you are looking for the challenge of single-track mountain biking trails, or an easy-going paved trail – we have you covered. Head over to Hickory Ridge Recreation Area to find a 14 mile off-road mountain biking trail. Hop on the 19.5 miles of the Old Abe State Trail for a paved path while immersing in Chippewa County’s natural landscape.

We don’t mean to brag, but Chippewa County is also home to iconic local breweries, wineries, and distilleries. Some of these locations are conveniently placed at the end of hiking trails, by the water, and near the bike trails (almost too good to be true, but we never lie).
