There’s a great song called One More Day from Diamond Rio. Well every four years, we all get one more day due to Leap Year. The extra day helps keep the calendar in sync with the astronomical year or in alignment with the earth’s revolutions around the sun. If we didn’t account for the extra day, over time our seasons would slowly change and in a few hundred years Christmas would be in the summer.
So this February 29th, let’s take advantage of one more day in the calendar year of 2024 to do something different. Here are a few suggestions to change up your day, your month, your year in Chippewa County.
Go Bowling.
When was the last time you went bowling? Head out to Falls Bowl or Ojibwa Golf and Bowl in Chippewa Falls, Cornell Bowl & Panther’s Pizza, Stanley Bar & Bowl or Tolley’s Bowl and Bar in Boyd. Since you haven’t played in a while, don’t worry about getting a perfect score. Just keep the bowling ball out of the gutters.
Make Something.
Throughout the county, there are so many places to try something unique, make something with your own hands. Take in an art class at the Heyde Center or at String Theory Studio, paint your own pottery at Glaze N Glass Creations or take your kids to the River Source Family Center for their weekly Play and Learn event. Wanting something more in-depth, sign-up for a hosted retreat at White’s Wildwood Retreat for their next scheduled event.
Pay Tribute to the Past.
Every day, every four years, we are making history. Throughout Chippewa County, we have so much history in which to honor. While the list is too long to include here, almost every community in our county has a historical museum, a veteran’s memorial, a historic site, the oldest building or the last one of something important to our history. Think the only pulpwood stacker left in the US is in Cornell, the historic 1887 restored lumber baron’s Cook-Rutledge Mansion, or the Jim Falls Xcel Energy Dam or the rumble bridge in Chippewa Falls’ Irvine Park. Going back even further, check out the Ice Age Trail or the Interpretive Center in New Auburn which is filled with an amazing history about the geological impact to our county.
What you do with your one extra day every four years is up to you. But we do hope that you make the best of it. Get out and Go to Chippewa County.
