What Are Fixed Point Photo Stations?
To better understand and protect the health of Lake Wissota, the Lake Wissota Stewardship Project (LWSP) has placed Fixed Point Photo Stations around the lake. These stations are simple, accessible tools that allow anyone with a smartphone to contribute to an ongoing visual record of the lake’s condition.
Each station includes a phone stand so visitors can capture the same view over time. By submitting your photo online, you help build a “story map” that tracks how the lake changes, season by season and year by year.
Why It Matters
These photos do more than capture beautiful views, they provide valuable insight into the health of the lake. Over time, they help document:
- Seasonal changes, including algae blooms
- Shoreline and island erosion
- Water clarity and overall lake conditions
By comparing images taken from the same location, conservationists and community members can better understand trends and measure the impact of ongoing conservation efforts.
Be Part of the Story
Next time you visit Lake Wissota, stop by one of the Fixed Point Photo Stations. Take a moment to snap a photo and submit it to the story map.
Your photo helps document change, support conservation efforts, and protect one of our area’s most valued natural resources.
