Joas Park Nature Preserve is a 52-acre parcel that 97-year-old Joe Joas generously donated. He did this to keep it free from development and wild to study nature and the public’s enjoyment. Its features include a pond with Misty Creek flowing into it, stately pines, hardwoods, prairies, and meadows. Some trails have recently been developed that skirt the pond, follow Misty Creek, and pass through a small meadow. This is a year-round destination along the Old Abe State Trail, offering outdoor recreation for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
