O’Neil ATV Trailhead is one of Chippewa County’s key access points for off-road recreation, located within the Chippewa County Forest and connecting riders to more than 23 miles of ATV/UTV trails. Shaped by glacial terrain, this area features rolling hills, valleys, and scenic backwoods landscapes, making it a great option for those seeking adventurous things to do in Chippewa County.
- Experience:
Ride through forested trails with steep climbs, winding paths, and varied terrain that challenge riders of all skill levels. Along the way, pass small lakes, beaver ponds, and scenic overlooks that highlight the natural beauty of the region. The trail system also connects to approximately 20 miles of nearby routes, primarily gravel roads, for extended riding. - Access:
The O’Neil ATV Trailhead provides convenient entry to the Chippewa County ATV trail system, with space for parking and unloading. Trails are two-way, so riders should remain alert for oncoming traffic, especially on hills and curves. The trail is typically open from May 1 through the Monday prior to Wisconsin’s traditional deer gun season, depending on conditions. - Good to know:
Help preserve the trail system by packing out all trash and recyclables during your visit. Following Leave No Trace principles helps protect the forest for future riders. Always check trail conditions or potential closures before heading out.
