River Road Cross-Country Ski Trail is one of Chippewa County’s scenic winter recreation spots, located about 2.5 miles north of Cornell along the Chippewa River. With routes for a range of skill levels and peaceful river views, it’s a great option for winter things to do in Chippewa County.
- Experience:
Ski through rolling terrain on two designated trails, including a more challenging 4-kilometer blue loop with steep grades for advanced skiers, and a 2.4-kilometer yellow loop with gentler slopes for intermediate users. Beginners can practice along the flatter River Road section, while all visitors can enjoy quiet forest and river scenery along the route. - Access:
The trail system is accessed from a designated parking area along River Road, with both loops clearly marked and numbered for easy navigation. Skiers follow blue markers (1–11) or yellow markers (1–7), with both routes returning along River Road. - Good to know:
Well-behaved dogs are allowed on the trail system. Trail markings and numbered segments help skiers track their location, making it easier to navigate and plan routes based on ability level.
