In this workshop, we’ll focus on creating clouds, haze, rain shafts, and other atmospheric conditions in the soft pastel medium. Challenge yourself to create a more engaging painting that goes beyond your photo references by exaggerating or changing colors, increasing or reducing contrast, and creating hard and soft edges. Some previous pastel experience is helpful but not required. You are required to have at least 36 different colors of soft pastels for this class—but more is definitely better. Regardless of the size of your set, you need to have an assortment of cool and warm blues, grays, and purples for best results. I will be providing all of the pastel paper/supports as well as having easels, boards, and other materials on hand if you need them. The required materials are available at art stores or you can order online from Jerry’s Artarama, Cheap Joe’s, Dick Blick, etc. *Please bring a bag lunch; we only break for 30 minutes.
