Ice Fishing Event! – Event Changed Due to Unsafe Ice Conditions

The YMCA of the Chippewa Valley is cancelling the Learn to Fish Free Fishing event at Ojibwa Golf & Bowl this Saturday, January 20. This decision was made based on guidelines from the Wisconsin DNR. The event is cancelled due to insufficient ice depth at the fishing location.
Instead, on Saturday, January 20, the Chippewa Falls YMCA will be open to the community to offer a fun alternative for individuals and families who were looking forward to attending the free fishing event. All are welcome at the Chippewa Falls YMCA to enjoy the pool, gym, group exercise classes, and everything else the YMCA offers. The gymnasium will not be available until after 1 PM due to scheduled programming.
No day fees will be required for non-members to visit; however, visitors will need a valid driver’s license and background screening at the welcome desk to enter the facility. Those 11-18 will need the guest agreement signed by a parent or guardian, and those under 11 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
“This free fishing event is something we look forward to every winter. We are saddened that the ice conditions have been deemed unsafe but are excited to open our facility up to the community for a day of fun instead,” Carrie Mathwig, Executive Director of the Chippewa Falls YMCA, shared. “Safety is our number one priority and the conditions have not been favorable so far this winter,” Mathwig added.
